LACEY VERNON MAKES HISTORY IN LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL REINING
When Val Vernon decided to buy Duncans Dun It, "Mudslide", from client, Gordon, she should have known he was well trained and flashy enough to grab the attention of her daughter, Lacey. Lacey took a liking to Mudslide and soon she was showing respectably and winning some local competitions on him.
She qualified for the USEF National Reining Championship held during the futurities in Oklahoma City and came back with a Gold Medal. She won the 19-21 age division against top reiners from around the country.
Lacey and Mudslide also qualified for the 2008 North American Young Riders Championships (NAYRC), a developing junior olympic-type event allowing riders from the US, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands to compete for the first time. She competed individually and on the US team at the international competition held at the Colorado Horse Park in August. Her success was phenomenal.
Lacey won the Bronze Medal in individual competition and took the Gold Medal with the US team. She's quoted as saying, "I'm not sure that I've ever had a better time," than she had competing in the NAYRC. Congratulations Lacey!
